7/18/2018 Cultural Elements of Safety

So much surrounding the way safety happens at your organization depends on attitudes and perceptions about safety. Learn to recognize key elements of a positive safety climate and what you can do to make solid improvements to the way safety happens in your workplace.

Presented by: David Hanson is a SAIF Senior Safety Management Consultant. Although he has a wood products background, He works with a variety of industries to help improve safety climate and safety management. He is a regular speaker for the Southern Oregon Safety and Health Conference, speaking on a variety of safety topics, including Safety Culture.


8/15/2018 Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) discussion, and presentation: Workers’ Compensation 101

This presentation describes how the Workers’ Compensation system works in Oregon. The training will demonstrate how premium is calculated and how reducing claims costs can reduce premium costs.

Presented by: Pamela Ahr, CSP. Pam is a Safety and Health Supervisor at SAIF Corporation in Medford. Pam has a BS in Human Resource Management from Arizona State University and an MBA from the University of Oregon. She recently became a Certified Safety Professional. She currently works with employers in Southern Oregon to help them implement or refine a comprehensive safety and health program.

John will be sharing about the 5 demographically confirmed longevity hotspots called Blue Zones, how the patterns found in those areas have been encapsulated and incorporated in project communities around the country and what led up to the establishment of Blue Zones Project-Umpqua. He'll talk about what that means for our community, current milestones, and how people can get involved.

Jessica is proud of her rich heritage in the Umpqua region where her ancestors started ranching along the North Umpqua River in the mid 1800’s. She is enthusiastic to serve in a role that will contribute to the long-lasting health and well-being of this community for many generations to come. During Jessica’s education and early years of her career, she had the opportunity to experience the positive impact of living in two Blue Zone communities, Loma Linda and the Beach Cities. Jessica graduated from Loma Linda University with Master of Public Health and also majored in Health Promotion. Over the past ten years, she has managed both community and worksite wellness programs for employers in the manufacturing and health system industries nationwide. 


10/17/18 How to Prevent Slips, Trips and Falls.

According to OSHA, slips, trips and falls constitute most of general industry accidents and result in back injuries, strains and sprains, contusions, and fractures. Additionally, they cause 15 percent of all accidental deaths and are second only to motor vehicles as a cause of fatalities. This training will help you create a workplace environment that anticipates and prevents Slip/Trip/Fall hazards.

12/19/18 Distracted and Fatigued Driving

Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death in the workplace in Oregon. This presentation will provide information on the leading causes of distraction and fatigue while driving, and practical strategies to influence change in driving behaviors.

Presented by: Patti McGuire, Senior Safety Management Consultant for SAIF Corporation. Patti McGuire is a Senior Safety Management Consultant for SAIF Corporation. She has been with SAIF since November of 2013 and works with employers in Jackson, Klamath and Lake Counties to improve their safety and health programs and reduce injuries. Previously she was the Manager of Occupational Health and Safety for Harry & David, overseeing safety and health programs for multiple facilities and 50+ retail stores nationwide. She also spent five years working in human resources in Wood Products manufacturing and fifteen years in Retail in district and store level operations. Patti is an Oregon native and has an AS degree in Business Administration-Accounting, however she was drawn to the field of Human Resources and Safety early in her career after a workplace fatality affected her family and her employer.
